FAQ

How long have you been a professional driver?

More than 11 years

What languages do you speak?

I speak English and Sinhala fluently

How much does a private driver cost

$70/day. This includes fuel and, in most cases, also includes the driver’s accommodations and meals. Because private drivers are common in Sri Lanka, most hotels offer separate (low cost) accommodations and meals for drivers; that cost is generally included in your hotel room rate. When driver accommodations and/or meals are not included in the rate, they are usually nominal; for example, driver’s meals are typically under $4/day and lodging is under $10/day.

How does it work?

It starts at the airport where I will pick you up and take you to your hotel. Throughout your stay in Sri Lanka, I will be parked nearby and ready to take you wherever you want to go. I will drop you at the door and park nearby to pick you up when you call. I will be with you for your entire trip, out of the way except when you want to go somewhere. I am always available to translate, help you find good stores, restaurants, beaches, sites, etc.

Do I need a driver?

Driving in Sri Lanka is very different experience from most western countries and an experience driver is highly recommended. Colombo traffic is much more challenging than most large cities (New York, London, Berlin, Sydney, etc.); you must navigate a dense mix of cars, lorries/trucks, tuk-tuks, and motorbikes where lanes and rules are optional. Parking is hard to find and often inconveniently located. Country driving involves narrow, poorly marked roads, steep mountain passes, and even the occasional elephant crossing the road. Overtaking (passing) in Sri Lanka is a learned art.

A private driver will make your vacation relaxing and stress-free.
